CDG Zig has become the first platform operator in Singapore to recognise the National Taxi Association (NTA) and the National Private Hire Vehicles Association (NPHVA) as Platform Work Associations under the new Platform Workers Act. With the recognition, NTA and NPHVA will formally represent CDG Zig's taxi and private-hire driver partners.
CDG Zig gave recognition to NTA and NPHVA on 20 February 2025 at CDG Zig’s Driver Centre at Sin Ming.
According to a joint release by CDG Zig, NTA, and NPHVA, the move strengthens the representation of CDG Zig’s taxi and private-hire driver partners.
NTUC Assistant Secretary-General Yeo Wan Ling praised the milestone as a significant step in improving workers’ rights.
“Through structured dialogue, we can better address concerns that matter to drivers, like earnings protection and work safety,” said Ms Yeo. She is also the Advisor to NTA and NPHVA.
The formal recognition grants NTA and NPHVA’s members more avenues to address workplace concerns, including conciliation with the Ministry of Manpower and the Industrial Arbitration Court.
This ensures fairer dispute resolution and greater protection for drivers.
It also sets a precedent for other platform operators to collaborate with worker associations to improve conditions for platform workers.
With this recognition, NTA and NPHVA will officially represent CDG Zig’s driver partners, giving them a stronger voice to address concerns such as earnings, welfare, and workplace protections.
The recognition builds on a longstanding partnership between CDG Zig and the associations. They have worked together for over a decade to enhance drivers’ livelihoods.
CDG Zig Digital Mobility Services Head Yee Hon Wai highlighted the company’s commitment to driver welfare.
He said: “CDG Zig is dedicated to creating a comprehensive ecosystem for our drivers, investing over S$5.5 million annually in programmes to enhance their earnings, welfare, and benefits.”
NTA President Ken Tan and NPHVA General Secretary Joseph Goh Say Sing welcomed the decision, calling it “a major win for platform workers.”
They said that having formal channels for addressing workplace issues will improve drivers’ lives more effectively.
CDG Zig worked closely with NTA and NPHVA even before implementing the Platform Workers Act in January 2025.
Their collaboration has led to initiatives such as improving the Zig app for better job accessibility, implementing welfare programmes, and establishing fairer fare structures that benefit drivers and passengers.
The Platform Workers Act, championed by NTUC, introduced key measures such as Central Provident Fund (CPF) contributions for platform workers’ housing and retirement adequacy.
It also ensures work injury compensation under the Work Injury Compensation Act (WICA), further strengthening protections for platform workers.
